Tuesday Beginner Canicross

Service Description

Learn the basics of Mushing and running with your dog in a safe manner while focusing on strengthening the bond between you and your four legged companion. You do not have to be a runner to benefit from this class as a canicross setup and commands are often used for everyday hands-free walking and hiking. Our class sizes are small with one Trainer and a maximum of three participants per course to keep training individualized for each team. Our trainer will be with you every step of the way and is there to answer any questions you may have. You will learn about a proper gear for canicross and other harness sports. Your trainer will help you find a canicross setup that works best for you and your dog. You'll learn all the basic commands and be given homework each week to master them at home. In-class you'll practice these commands with the guidance of your trainer. You'll learn about everything from starts, encouraging to pull into harness, running straight, turns on command, passing, and more! You will leave this class with a solid foundation to work off of so you can navigate the trails with confidence with your dog. We will not be running more than 2km per class. Most of the running will be in shorter intervals to keep your dog engaged. These classes are focusing on foundations before building speed and stamina. Classes will be held in the Sackville Area. Locations may vary due to trail conditions and the goal of your weekly class. This is a great way to get into harness dog sports and the same principals apply to bikejoring, skijoring, and more! Following this class we encourage participants to get out with our local club for weekly runs, meetups and events throughout NS, NB & PEI. We have a large community of folks through East Coast Mushing who love to get out with their dogs, go on adventures, and make memories. Everyone is welcomed with open arms! Dogs participating must be a minimum of 12 months old for this class Private Lessons can be tailored for dogs less than 12 months One dog per participant. If you have multiple dogs, we encourage you to bring one then our trainer will be able to give tips for incorporating a second dog. Private lessons with multiple dogs can also be booked after the course. Gear rentals are available for all participants for the duration of the course.
